Snake and Step Ladder

This stepladder, made with Mountain Ash, is a unique commission piece designed as a gift for a ‘sweetheart’. “I try to give my sweetheart a commissioned work for her birthday each year…in order to give some meaning to gifts.” The brief requested a snake reference, which I pondered for some time, considering things like the application of snake like textures, colour and even form. I adopted a more lateral solution, in that the structural shape of the library ladder spells out the word snake. “She is afraid of snakes and... Read The Rest →

Linger Bench Seat – Spotted Gum

The ‘Linger’ bench seat has come about through experimentation into doing as little as possible to achieve a functionally successful product. In this case, two pieces of 5mm stainless steel plate, laser cut and folded slightly, a plank of timber with four incisions made across the grain and a length of steel cable to tension the whole assembly together. A sturdy platform to linger a while. See more HERE Share → Tweet

Sabbatical Cabinet

Sabbatical: Sabbatical or a sabbatical (from Latin sabbaticus, from Greek sabbatikos, from Hebrew shabbat, i.e., Sabbath, literally a “ceasing”) is a rest from work, or a hiatus…. The concept of sabbatical has a source in shmita, described several places in the Bible (Leviticus 25, for example, where there is a commandment to desist from working the fields in the seventh year). In the strict sense, therefore, sabbatical lasts a year. WIKIPEDIA I am quite fortunate to have parents who live and work on a farm in central NSW. Second to... Read The Rest →

Spare Table – ‘Bowling Alley Slab’ Dining Table

ABOUT THE TABLE: Made with a Rock Maple bowling alley slab and folded and welded mild steel, powder coated in matt ‘Yellow Gold’. Its Industrial aesthetic and heavy nature are contrasted with thin materials and tapered legs in an effort to lighten the overall feel of the table. The bright yellow colour choice contributes to its industrial aesthetic, referencing a colour very similar to that of safety, often seen in factories for its precautionary ability. In addition to this, the yellow legs also emit an enjoyable energy, which should offer... Read The Rest →

Dining Table – Red Ironbark

I have just finished a commission to redesign and refurbish a chunky table made of Red Ironbark. The timber is very heavy and its old frame matched its weight with an equally heavy aesthetic. I started this project with an intention to lighten the aesthetic without compromising its structural integrity. I feel I have achieved this and while the table still weighs a tonne, it doesn’t look it. What do you think? Share → Tweet

Decoration & Design 2012 – Furnitex – ‘Three Couch’

In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how... Read The Rest →

Bench Seats – Sharing

Turns out that sharing is beneficial to health and happiness, so you might want to consider disposing of your lonely chairs and obtaining a bench seat. Car-sharing, babysitting cooperatives, and tool lending are just a few of the many creative ways people are eschewing ownership and learning to share the goods and services they need. But sharing can do more than just save you a buck. New psychological research suggests that sharing fosters trust and cooperation in the community and contributes to personal well-being. Here are some of the ways... Read The Rest →

Everybody collects something! Whether it be photographs of a person’s vacation, ticket stubs from ballgames, souvenirs of trips, pictures of one’s children, athletes‟ trophies, kids report cards, and those who collect “junk” (pack-rats) and dispose of it in garage sales …. Why do we collect things, e.g., Cracker Jack toys, manhole covers, clocks?
